March 2027 Korea Admission Countdown for Vietnamese Students: What to Finish from July 2026

Vietnamese students aiming to enter a Korean institution in March 2027 should work backward from the deadline beginning in July 2026. Wanting to study in Korea is not enough. Application deadlines, TOPIK or English scores, the family budget, scholarships and D-2 or D-4 visa preparation all affect one another.

This article does not rewrite the roadmap for Vietnamese students published in June. That roadmap explained TOPIK, costs, scholarships and family decisions together. This guide focuses on what must be finished each month from July 2026 to March 2027. It draws on Study in Korea's online-application page, student-visa guidance, cost and scholarship information, and the Ministry of Education's 2026 TOPIK implementation plan.

Preparation for March 2027 admission does not begin in 2027. Students should decide on the target program and language strategy in summer 2026 and track each university's admission guidelines and application deadline in fall 2026. Admission, enrollment, visas and departure preparation overlap from late 2026 into early 2027.

July: Choose the Target Program First

The first decision is not “Do I want to go to Korea?” but “Which program will I enter?” Students with low Korean proficiency who need language preparation before university can consider D-4 Korean-language training. Those applying directly for freshman, transfer, master's or doctoral admission should prepare around the D-2 degree-study pathway. Study in Korea distinguishes D-2 degree study from D-4 non-degree training.

In counseling Vietnamese students, the student and family often differ at this stage. Students mention the major and city first, while families ask first about cost, safety and career prospects after graduation. In July, write down these 3 sentences.

1. For March 2027, do I want Korean-language training, freshman admission, transfer or a master's program?
2. Does the program require TOPIK, an English score or both?
3. What 1-year budget can my family prepare, including tuition and living expenses?

August: Separate the TOPIK and English-Track Options

For Vietnamese students, TOPIK is more than a Korean-language test. It connects to university admission, scholarships, adaptation to major courses and later employment preparation. The Ministry of Education announced the 2026 Test of Proficiency in Korean schedule. Students targeting March 2027 admission should align the second-half 2026 test and score-release dates with university application deadlines.

Not every program relies only on TOPIK. Some English-track master's programs may place greater weight on English scores and a research proposal. Freshman, transfer and Korean-track programs may place more weight on the TOPIK level and ability to study in Korean. In August, decide whether to take TOPIK again, seek an English-track program or begin with Korean-language training.

September-October: Review Admission Guidelines and Online Applications Together

Study in Korea's online-application page shows programs, application periods, degree levels and application buttons by university. As checked on July 5, 2026, Fall 2026 programs were shown as open or scheduled. Applicants for March 2027 should use the same structure to find each university's Spring 2027 admission guidelines beginning in fall 2026.

The key is not the Korean university ranking but the admission track available under the applicant's conditions. Put Vietnamese high-school grades, university enrollment or graduation status, transfer-credit recognition, TOPIK or English scores, financial proof, and the feasibility of translation and notarization into one table.

November-December: Close the Application and Family Budget Together

Document work peaks in November and December. Students must manage the personal statement, study plan, recommendation, portfolio, transcript, graduation certificate, translated and notarized records, and financial proof at the same time. The student must explain why the major fits, while the family must decide whether it can complete enrollment immediately after admission.

Study in Korea's cost guidance explains that students should consider living expenses, housing, insurance, textbooks and transportation in addition to tuition. It also provides average annual tuition for degree programs and tuition by field. Actual costs differ by university, so check both the university's official admissions office and university disclosure data.

Vietnamese students often overlook how scholarships work. A scholarship may be assessed automatically or require a separate application, and conditions may vary by TOPIK, grades, interview and major. Study in Korea's scholarship guidance provides routes for finding government programs such as GKS and university scholarships.

January-February: After Admission, Visas and Departure Take Priority

In January-February 2027, students must coordinate admission results, tuition payment, issuance of the standard admission letter, D-2 or D-4 visa preparation, dormitory applications, flights, insurance and foreigner registration. If documents are suddenly found missing at this stage, the entire entry schedule can be disrupted.

Study in Korea's student-visa guidance distinguishes the purposes and documents for D-2 and D-4. D-2 is for regular programs at associate-degree level or above or specified research activities. D-4 connects to non-degree training such as Korean-language study. Although the names are similar, the admission letter, program classification and purpose of stay differ.
