The Seoul Foreign Resident Center is recruiting foreign residents for an ITQ Word qualification preparation class. Applications are accepted from 9:00 a.m. on September 17 to 6:00 p.m. on October 9. The class is limited to 9 participants.
Classes run every Sunday from October 11 through November 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Each session lasts 3 hours, for a total of 8 sessions. The program is for foreign residents who want to prepare for the ITQ Word qualification or systematically learn document-writing skills.
What is the Seoul Foreign Resident Center?
The Seoul Foreign Resident Center is a comprehensive support hub for foreign residents established by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2014. It provides multilingual living consultations, specialized legal and labor consultations, Korean-language and computer education, cultural programs, and foreign resident community activities. This ITQ preparation class is one of its computer education programs designed to support practical digital learning for foreign residents.
What is ITQ Word and what is it useful for?
ITQ stands for “Information Technology Qualification” and is an information technology qualification administered by the Korea Productivity Center. It is a nationally accredited private qualification recognized by the Ministry of Science and ICT; it evaluates practical ability to use computer programs and awards A, B, or C grades according to the results.
The Word subject focuses on practicing practical skills for creating documents and organizing document elements such as text, paragraphs, tables, and images. It can be used to learn office document-writing skills systematically and demonstrate computer proficiency through an objective qualification. The learning content also connects directly to situations requiring well-organized documents, such as school assignments, administrative documents, and office work.
Class format and materials
Instruction is conducted in Korean. Because the class centers on hands-on practice in writing documents and solving problems on a computer, applicants are advised to consult the staff before applying about whether they can follow instruction in Korean.
Tuition is free, but participants must obtain the textbook themselves. Which textbook to buy and the purchase deadline can be confirmed during registration consultation. Frequent absences can disrupt exam preparation, so applicants need to first review the schedule for all 8 sessions.
Classes are held in Room 402 of the Seoul Foreign Resident Center at 40 Dosin-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. Checking Sunday transportation and the center’s entry hours in advance can help avoid arriving late for the first class.
Apply in person after a phone consultation
Prospective participants should first call to confirm eligibility and remaining seats, then bring identification and visit the center to apply. Simply reading the notice on the Seoul Foreign Resident Portal does not complete registration.
For questions, contact staff member Kim Nam-ji at 02-2229-4922. If multilingual guidance is needed, use the center’s main number at 02-2229-4900. Because enrollment is limited, it is advisable to confirm whether recruitment has closed before visiting.
