Hanyang University Spring 2027 International Undergraduate Admissions Open September 1

Hanyang University's Seoul Campus opens applications for Semester 1 of 2027 international undergraduate freshman and transfer admission at 10:00 on September 1, 2026. The online application closes at 17:00 on September 18, and application documents must arrive at the Office of International Affairs by 17:00 on September 30.

The first point to check in this admissions cycle is the Korean-language standard. TOPIK Level 2 is not a blanket minimum threshold for submitting an application. Hanyang may admit applicants who have not yet met the Korean-language standard based on its academic-ability assessment. After admission, however, those students must take a leave of absence until they meet TOPIK/TOPIK IBT Level 4 or Hanyang University's International Education Institute Level 4, then return from leave and begin degree coursework.

Online applications close September 18; postal documents are due September 30

Online applications and document submission begin on the same day but have different deadlines. All times are Korea Standard Time (KST).

In-person submission is not accepted. Even after the online application is completed, documents and works still have to be sent by post. September 30 is an arrival deadline, not a mailing date, so applicants should mail early enough for their location and delivery time.

Freshmen need high school graduation; transfers need prior study and a related major

The common nationality condition for freshman and transfer applicants is that the applicant and both parents are all foreign nationals. Foreign nationality must have been acquired before the applicant entered high school. For a dual national, the applicant and both parents must all have lost Korean nationality before that same point.

Freshman applicants must have graduated from high school or be able to graduate before the semester begins. Transfer applicants must satisfy one of the following conditions and apply to a Hanyang department or major similar to the major at their previous institution.

• Have completed, or expect to complete, at least 2 years and 4 regular semesters at a domestic or overseas 4-year university
• Have completed, or expect to complete, at least 2 years in a 3-year or 5-year bachelor's program
• Have graduated from, or expect to graduate from, a junior college

Seasonal terms do not count toward the 4 regular semesters. Admission may be canceled if the qualification is not recognized in the country where the school is located or if the final graduation/completion document is not submitted after admission.

Korean Level 4 is different from an application cutoff

The undergraduate Korean-language standard is TOPIK/TOPIK IBT Level 4 or higher, or Hanyang University's International Education Institute Level 4 or higher. This does not mean every applicant must meet that standard before applying. The Hanyang admissions guide states that applicants who have not yet met the Korean standard may still be admitted based on an academic-ability assessment.

The distinction matters after admission. Students who meet the standard receive their student number, register for courses, attend new-student orientation, and begin degree study. Those who do not meet it receive a student number, take a leave of absence, study Korean, and return from leave only after meeting the standard. Eligibility to apply must therefore be distinguished from eligibility to begin degree classes immediately.

Applicants to English-track programs are exempt from the Korean-language standard, but they must submit the English score required by the department.

Check translation, authentication, and postal arrival requirements for documents

Applicants must prepare nationality and family-relationship records, final academic credentials, transcripts, and language-proficiency documents according to their application type and academic unit. Documents not in Korean or English must have a Korean or English translation attached and notarized. For graduation/degree and transcript documents issued by overseas schools, applicants must check the guide to determine whether an apostille or consular authentication by a Korean diplomatic mission is required.

Departments with portfolio review or interviews require materials in addition to the standard documents. In particular, arts and sports departments have department-specific video USB and work-submission formats. Transfer applicants should also check materials that demonstrate similarity between the major at the previous institution and the intended major.

Applicants should recheck for typos after submitting the online application. Any disadvantage caused by incorrectly entered Korean/English name, date of birth, address, telephone number, or email is treated as the applicant's responsibility.

Seoul Campus allows choice 1 and choice 2 applications

Within the Seoul Campus, applicants may submit either a single choice or choice 1 and choice 2 applications. However, the Korean-track and English-track programs of the School of Business and the Department of Media Communication may be selected only as choice 1.

The fee for a single application is KRW 142,000. For two choices, the choice 1 fee is KRW 142,000 plus KRW 27,000 for choice 2, totaling KRW 169,000. Applicants using two choices must submit the online application twice, and they can file the choice 2 application only after paying the choice 1 fee.

Admission is decided from choice 1. Choice 2 is reviewed only if the applicant is rejected from choice 1; if admitted to choice 1, choice 2 is automatically treated as unsuccessful. Seoul Campus and ERICA Campus admissions are conducted separately, so the detailed rules in this article apply only to the Seoul Campus guide.

Tuition figures use Semester 2 of 2026 as the reference

The tuition amounts in the admissions guide are reference figures based on Semester 2 of the 2026 academic year. Actual 2027 tuition may change under university policy.

The Hanyang International Scholarship Program (HISP) offers tuition reductions of 100%, 70%, or 50% to incoming students with strong document-review results or arts/sports portfolio results. For freshmen, it may apply for the 8 regular semesters, but recipients must maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 each semester, and the number selected may vary by semester.

Incoming students with TOPIK/TOPIK IBT Level 6 are eligible for a 100% first-semester tuition reduction, and Level 5 students for 50%. However, graduates or expected graduates of high schools in Korea are excluded from the TOPIK Level 5 scholarship. The English-proficiency scholarship gives a 30% first-semester tuition reduction to incoming students with TOEFL iBT 90 or IELTS 6.5 or higher. Scholarships cannot be combined and are assessed only on materials submitted during the regular document-submission period, so an expected scholarship should not be treated as guaranteed funding.
