Wonkwang Winter Korean Course: Apply Sept. 1–30

Wonkwang University in Iksan, Jeonbuk, will accept application documents for its 2026 winter Korean language training course from Sept. 1 through 30. Classes run from Nov. 30 to Feb. 4, 2027. Regular classes meet four hours a day from Monday through Thursday, and tuition is KRW 1.1 million per term.

Iksan is a city in Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province in southwestern South Korea. Iksan Station is served by the Honam and Jeolla railway lines, and Wonkwang University's English campus guide says the campus is about 10 minutes away by taxi or 15 minutes by bus. Iksan is also home to the Wanggung-ri Archaeological Site and Mireuksa Temple Site, components of UNESCO's Baekje Historic Areas, offering access to Korea's ancient history and local culture.

A comprehensive university in Iksan with strengths in health education

Wonkwang University is a comprehensive university at 460 Iksan-daero, Iksan. Its undergraduate programs include the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Korean Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing, alongside health-related fields and humanities, social sciences, engineering and arts. The campus has a central library, student residences and education facilities for medical and health fields.

This intake is for the Center for Korean Language & Culture's Korean language training course, not a degree program. Applicants are foreign nationals and overseas Koreans who have graduated from high school or have equivalent academic qualifications. Wonkwang University selects trainees through document screening and interviews. Under these university guidelines, applicants seeking a D-4-1 language-training visa must enroll for at least two terms, or six months.

Submit documents in September; classes begin Nov. 30

Originals and copies of application documents must be submitted separately by mail or in person by the deadline. Document screening assesses authenticity, academic ability and plans, followed by in-person, telephone or video interviews for successful applicants. The regular course covers speaking and listening, vocabulary and grammar, and reading and writing, with cultural experiences during the term. It has levels 1 through 6, but classes may be combined or may not open depending on enrollment.

Tuition is KRW 1.1 million per term

The KRW 4.6 million four-term total combines four tuition payments and the one-time initial costs. Dormitory and living expenses are not included. Before applying, students should ask the center about the dormitory stay period and cost available for the winter Korean course.

Prepare passport, education and country-specific authentication documents

The guidelines require an application form, passport copy, graduation and transcript certificates for the highest completed education, and a personal statement and study plan. Documents proving family relationships, parents' employment and income, and bank balances are also required. Academic-document authentication and financial-proof methods vary by country, and documents not in Korean or English need a Korean or English translation. Confirm the applicable authentication method and issuance timing with the center before documents are issued to reduce the risk of reissuance.

Undergraduate-entry scholarships after completing the Korean course

The guidelines state that students who complete Wonkwang University's Korean course and enter an undergraduate program at the university receive a 50% reduction in tuition for one semester. Separately, the listed TOPIK reductions are 50% for level 3, 60% for level 4, and 100% for level 5 or higher. The guidelines do not specify the TOPIK scholarship's period of application or whether it can be combined with other scholarships; confirm both during undergraduate admissions counseling.

The next intake, the 2027 spring term, is scheduled to accept documents from Dec. 1 through 24, 2026, and begin classes on March 2, 2027. The academic schedule may change.
