Choose between Jukjeon and Cheonan first

Before completing the application, applicants should first distinguish the locations of Jukjeon and Cheonan. This is because their living area and travel plans after entering Korea will differ depending on the campus.

Jukjeon Campus is located at 경기도 용인시 수지구 죽전로 152. It is not in central Seoul but in the Yongin, Gyeonggi-do area immediately south of Seoul. Dankook University’s Office of International Affairs states that the campus can be reached on foot from Jukjeon Station on the Bundang Line and that central Seoul is about 30–40 minutes away by public transportation. International Hall is introduced as a hub for international programs and student support.

Cheonan Campus is located at 충청남도 천안시 동남구 단대로 119. It is not a campus in the Seoul metropolitan area like Jukjeon but a separate campus in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do. The Office of International Affairs introduces health sciences, biomedical research, and industry-linked education as part of the Cheonan Campus’s educational background. Applicants can choose after considering both the campus where they will study and the area where they will live after entering Korea.

Required documents differ by visa status

The current admissions guide divides applicants into those eligible for visa-free entry, holders of other visas such as F or E, and applicants for a D-4-1 visa. All three groups basically prepare 2 3cm×4cm ID photos with a white background, 1 copy of the passport, and 1 copy of the graduation certificate from the most recent school. Applicants should also bring physical copies of the ID photos.

Applicants eligible for visa-free entry

Prepare the common documents and, where applicable, add a National Health Insurance eligibility acquisition/loss certificate.

Applicants who already hold another visa, such as F or E

In addition to the common documents, provide 1 copy of the Alien Registration Card. The Alien Registration Card requirement applies to holders, and applicants should also prepare a National Health Insurance eligibility acquisition/loss certificate where applicable.

Applicants who will apply for a D-4-1 visa

D-4-1 applicants prepare additional financial and academic documents together with the common documents.

  • Bank balance certificate: Prepare a document issued within the past 30 days showing a balance equivalent to KRW 10 million and upload it with the other required documents during the online application stage. Submit the original issued by the bank after entering Korea.
  • If submitting a bank balance certificate in a parent’s name, also prepare a document proving the family relationship.
  • Prepare 1 copy of the transcript from the most recent school.
  • Submit a letter of guarantee only if the university additionally requests it during document screening. According to the university’s guidance, the guarantor must be a Korean national aged 20 or older who resides in Korea and has an occupation.

D-4-1 applicants should also prepare academic document authentication and translation

The authentication method for the graduation certificate submitted with a D-4-1 visa application differs by country. Applicants from mainland China, excluding Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao, prepare an academic credential authentication report. Applicants from other countries submit the graduation certificate with an apostille or Korean consular authentication.

Applicants who are not applying for a D-4-1 visa are currently excluded, under the university’s document table, from the apostille and consular authentication requirements for the graduation certificate.

Documents written in languages other than Korean, English, Chinese, or Japanese must be accompanied by a notarized Korean or English translation. Original Korean- or English-language transcripts issued directly by a high school or university may be submitted without a separate apostille, consular confirmation, or notarized translation.

During screening, the university may request additional materials such as family relationship documents or certificates related to a parent’s employment or income. Applicants who pass document screening submit the originals of the documents used in the review, and submitted admissions documents are not returned. Screening results are expected to be individually announced within 1–2 weeks after the recruitment period ends.

Follow the steps from online application to visa application

The application process continues from online submission through entry into Korea.

  1. Online application: Complete the application form and upload the required documents for your visa status.
  2. Document screening: The university checks eligibility and submitted information and informs successful applicants of the next steps.
  3. Pay tuition after acceptance notice: Successful applicants pay tuition within the period specified by the university. Check the amount and deadline for each campus in the acceptance notice; if you need to confirm costs before applying, use ildku@dankook.ac.kr or the official WhatsApp inquiry channel.
  4. Receive the Standard Admission Letter: Once tuition payment is confirmed, the university issues and sends the Standard Admission Letter and the documents needed for the visa application.
  5. Apply for a visa at the local Korean diplomatic mission abroad: Applicants outside Korea prepare the documents received from the university and the visa documents required for them, then apply at the Republic of Korea diplomatic mission with jurisdiction.
  6. Prepare for entry: Before entering Korea, decide on housing and whether to use airport pickup, then participate in orientation and classes according to the university schedule after arrival.

The Korean Language Program runs 4 terms a year, 200 hours per term

Dankook University Global Education Center was established in 1988 to provide Korean-language education for international students. The regular Korean Language Program operates 4 terms a year—spring, summer, fall, and winter—and each term consists of 200 hours.

Classes integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing and are divided into 6 levels according to Korean proficiency. The program introduction also includes a homeroom system in which two instructors manage each class and Korean cultural experience classes.

Dankook University opened in Seoul in 1947, and Cheonan Campus opened in 1978. The current Jukjeon Campus was completed in 2007 following the relocation of the former Seoul Campus. Korean Language Program applicants choose which of the university’s two campuses will be the actual location for their studies and daily life.

Prepare in this order before Oct. 9

  • Choose a campus: Decide together with your housing and travel plans, based on Jukjeon being in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, and Cheonan being in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do.
  • Apply online: Complete the online application and upload documents between Sept. 7 and Oct. 9.
  • Prepare documents by visa type: D-4-1 applicants prepare the bank balance certificate, transcript, authenticated graduation certificate, and required translation documents; holders of other visas such as F or E check the documents that apply to them, including the Alien Registration Card.
  • Check the post-acceptance steps: Following the university’s acceptance notice, pay tuition and receive the Standard Admission Letter and visa documents; applicants abroad then apply for a visa at the Republic of Korea diplomatic mission with jurisdiction.
  • Prepare for the Dec. 1 start: Decide on housing and pickup before entering Korea and begin orientation and classes according to the university schedule.
