Start by identifying the deadline for your nationality
The following 21 countries are subject to the October 11 deadline and interview in Kwangwoon University’s winter-term notice.
Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Mongolia, Thailand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Iran, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Ghana, Egypt, Peru, China
The stated deadline for applicants in the 비고시국가 category who are not on this list is November 1. The university also says applications may close early depending on visa processing times by country, so applicants preparing for a D-4 from overseas should not treat their deadline as the last day to prepare. A practical sequence is to check whether applications are still being accepted at `kwiie1@kw.ac.kr` when preparing the documents, then apply online.
Applicants who already hold a status of stay in Korea and will not apply for a D-4 follow a separate schedule. The university notice states the deadline as three weeks before classes begin. In this case, first check your current status of stay and the non-D-4 document list rather than relying on the October 11 or November 1 dates.
After the online application: admission, originals, then D-4
The basic eligibility requirement is high school graduation or an equivalent level of education. For applicants seeking a D-4 from overseas, uploading files online does not complete the process, so it is best to plan around the following sequence from the outset.
- Complete the online application and upload the required documents through Study in Korea.
- Applicants selected for an interview check the interview instructions by email.
- Check the admission result by email.
- Pay the application fee and tuition.
- Send the original documents required by the university by mail.
- Receive the admission letter.
- D-4 applicants use the admission letter and other required documents to apply for and obtain the visa.
- After entering Korea, take the November 23 level test.
- Classes begin on December 1.
Students in some parts of China who cannot log in to Study in Korea may, under the university notice, send their application materials to `kwiie1@kw.ac.kr` or `kcklc5307@kw.ac.kr` instead.
For a D-4 application, prepare academic, family, and financial documents together
Applicants overseas seeking a D-4 language-training visa should prepare the following materials based on the D-4 document table in Kwangwoon University’s Korean-language admissions guide.
- Application form and study plan printed after applying online through Study in Korea
- One ID photo
- Copy of passport
- Proof of family relationship: for Chinese nationals, a copy of the household register or a kinship certificate; for other nationalities, a birth certificate or family relationship certificate
- Copies of the applicant’s and parents’ identification documents
- Proof of educational qualifications from the last school attended: an apostille for applicants from Apostille Convention countries, or notarized English translations for applicants from non-member countries
- Transcript from the most recent school attended
- One certificate each of a parent’s employment and income, showing the company name, address, and contact information
- Bank balance certificate in the applicant’s own name showing at least KRW 10 million. If the account is in a parent’s name, also prepare a notarized family relationship certificate.
Documents not in Korean or English must be translated into Korean or English and notarized before submission. Preparing this set from the online application stage makes it possible to move directly to mailing the originals and the D-4 application after admission.
Applicants not seeking a D-4 have a shorter document list
Kwangwoon University’s admissions guide separately lists the documents for visa-waiver entrants, short-term C-3-9 holders, and people who already hold another status of stay in Korea and will not apply for a D-4.
- Application form and study plan
- One photo
- Copy of passport
- Copy of graduation certificate from the last school attended or certificate of enrollment
- Copy of Alien Registration Card; if not registered, copy of visa
The application deadline for this route is three weeks before classes begin. If you are already in Korea, first confirm your current status of stay, assemble the documents above, and then coordinate the application schedule with the Kwangwoon University Korean Language Education Center.
Fees: KRW 50,000 application fee and KRW 1.5 million tuition
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Application fee | KRW 50,000; nonrefundable |
| Tuition | KRW 1,500,000 per semester; cultural activities included |
| Textbooks | About KRW 70,000 per semester; purchased separately |
Students are responsible for any shortfall caused by overseas remittance fees or exchange-rate differences. Refunds are handled under the university’s internal rules.
Plan the December 1 start separately from Bitsoljae’s February/August move-in periods
The public dormitory Bitsoljae described in Kwangwoon University’s guide offers double rooms at about KRW 290,000 per month, with a separate KRW 100,000 deposit and a minimum six-month stay. Move-in is available in February or August.
This winter regular program begins on December 1. Applicants who need housing immediately upon arriving for the winter term should, before finalizing their flight and entry schedule, ask the Korean Language Education Center when Bitsoljae can actually be used and separately secure housing for a December arrival.
10 weeks and 200 hours, Levels 1–6 in Nowon, Seoul
The regular program runs four terms a year—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—and offers Levels 1 through 6. Each term is 10 weeks and 200 hours, with four hours of class per day from Monday through Friday. The guide lists class times as 09:00–13:00 or 14:00–18:00. Students study speaking, listening, reading, and writing in an integrated format, and the university also lists one to two Korean cultural experiences per term plus learning-support programs such as Hangul classes, clinics, tutoring, and TOPIK preparation.
The Korean Language Education Center is at Room 701-1, Research Building, Kwangwoon University, 21 Kwangwoon-ro, Nowon-gu, Seoul. The guide says it is about a six-minute walk from Kwangwoon University Station on Subway Line 1 and about 10 minutes from Seokgye Station on Line 6.
In its official introduction, Kwangwoon University traces its origins to the Chosun Radio Training Institute founded in 1934 and, alongside its history in electronic engineering, now mentions software, ICT, robotics, and AI. Applicants comparing winter Korean programs should settle their application deadline, D-4 preparation period, and December housing plan before focusing on this broader university context.
Final checklist before applying
- Check whether your nationality is among the 21 designated countries and identify the October 11 or November 1 deadline.
- Decide first whether you will apply for a D-4 and prepare only the corresponding document list.
- Start the [Study in Korea online application](https://www.studyinkorea.go.kr/ko/receipt/OnlineReceipt11.do).
- If you will enter Korea before classes begin on December 1, secure accommodation for immediately after arrival separately from Bitsoljae’s February/August move-in periods.
- Recheck the document items in whichever of the university’s seven admissions-guide languages is easiest for you: Korean, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, or Russian.
