Sungkyunkwan University Spring International Undergraduate Admissions: Round 2 Opens in November

Sungkyunkwan University’s Round 1 application period for 2027 spring international undergraduate admission closed on August 21. The next opportunity, Round 2, opens online at 10 a.m. on November 4 and closes at 5 p.m. on November 13. Even after submitting the application, all required documents must reach the International Student Services Team by 5 p.m. on November 27.

This admission cycle is divided into the Korean Track and English Track. Applicants without proof of Korean proficiency may still apply through the preliminary admission system described in the admissions guide. The university reviews nationality, academic background, and language records based on the application and supporting documents submitted.

Round 2 Applications Close November 13; Documents Must Arrive by November 27

The online application and document submission have different deadlines. All times are Korea Standard Time (KST).

Applicants rejected in Round 1 who apply again in Round 2 must resubmit every document. The mailing address in the admissions guide is International Student Services Team (Room 90213), 2nd floor, International Hall, 25-2 Sungkyunkwan-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul. November 27 is an arrival deadline, not a postmark deadline.

Applications are submitted online as a rule. An applicant number is assigned automatically only after the application fee has been paid, and the application is treated as complete only once that number has been issued. Entries cannot be changed after the application deadline, so applicants should recheck their name, nationality, passport number, contact information, and intended admission unit before payment.

Check Nationality and High School Education Before Applying

The standard eligibility rule requires both the applicant and the applicant’s parents to be foreign nationals. An applicant is ineligible if either a parent or the applicant holds dual nationality that includes Korean nationality. If Korean nationality was renounced or lost, the admissions guide requires separate conditions and evidence, including acquisition of foreign nationality before the start of the high school curriculum and renunciation or loss of Korean nationality before the application is submitted.

Eligible applicants must have graduated from a regular high school in Korea or abroad, or be able to graduate by March 2027. The admissions guide states that credentials from equivalency exams, homeschooling, cyber learning, and similar routes are not recognized for this admission process. Applicants should match the required document list and evidence format to their own nationality, family relationship, and academic background.

Korean Track Allows Preliminary Admission; English Track Requires Separate Proof

Applicants to the Korean Track may demonstrate Korean proficiency with a TOPIK or TOPIK IBT score report; completion, course, or grade records from the Sungkyun Language Institute or a Korean-language program at a Korean university; a certificate of completion for the King Sejong Institute Korean Basic Education Course; or other accepted evidence. The admissions guide states that applicants without proof of Korean proficiency may also apply through the preliminary admission system.

For the English Track, applicants may submit official English test records such as TOEFL iBT, IELTS, TEPS, or TOEIC. Submission of an official English score may be waived with separate academic evidence if the applicant is a national of a country where English is a native language or a legally recognized official language, or has completed the entire middle-school and high-school curriculum in such a country. Accepted evidence varies by track and individual academic history.

Students in Korean Track divisions or departments may be required to have TOPIK or TOPIK IBT Level 4 or above to choose a major in the 2nd year or take major courses, and Level 5 or above is listed as a graduation requirement. The admissions guide explains that the same Korean-language test requirements are not imposed on English Track students for entry into a major, course registration, or graduation.

Check Separately Which Programs Recruit Only for the Spring Intake

The Undeclared Major Division, Department of Acting Arts, and Department of Architecture (5-year program) recruit only for the spring intake (March admission). The Undeclared Major Division is offered only in the Korean Track and is open only to preliminary admittees who are reapplying. In the English Track, Global Economics, Global Business Administration, and Global Biomedical Engineering are also listed as spring-intake programs.

Applicants admitted through division-based recruitment should also note that they select a major when advancing to the 2nd year. The admissions guide states that admission units and departments may change because of new programs, mergers, or similar reasons. Before applying, applicants to a specific major should compare the major name and track against the admission-unit table for the relevant academic year.

Admissions Are Based on 100% Document Review

Sungkyunkwan University states that this admission process is based on 100% document review. It comprehensively evaluates academic readiness for university study, including high school records; Korean and English language ability; and extracurricular areas including volunteer work, awards, and attendance. Applicants should prepare the application, supporting documents, language records for the selected track, and academic and extracurricular records as one complete package.

Evaluation details and reasons for rejection are not disclosed. Because the university reviews academic, language, and extracurricular records comprehensively, preliminary-admission eligibility or any single language credential does not by itself determine admission.

Prepare Documents, Translations, and Authentication as One Package

All applicants must prepare the application, document checklist, consent form for academic-record verification, identity and family-relationship records for the applicant and parents, language-proficiency records, high school graduation or expected-graduation certificate, and transcript. Depending on the applicant’s country and school type, additional materials may be required, such as Chinese academic credential verification, a school information confirmation form, or proof of stay in Korea.

Graduation or expected-graduation certificates and transcripts from high schools outside Korea require either an Apostille or Korean consular authentication in the relevant country. Documents not in Korean or English must also meet the applicable translation and notarization requirements. Documents that must be submitted as originals or notarized translations should be prepared for mailing separately from the file upload.

Submitted documents are not returned regardless of the admission result. If an applicant holds only one original of a document, the applicant should check the required submission form for that document in the admissions guide and submit it as the required original, copy, notarized translation, or authenticated copy.

Application Fee: KRW 150,000 for New Admission, KRW 30,000 for Preliminary-Admission Reapplication

The application fee for new admission under the international special admission process is KRW 150,000. A preliminarily admitted applicant who reapplies to the same admission unit is charged KRW 30,000. After an application is completed, cancellation and refunds are handled in accordance with the admissions guide, applicable laws, and university rules.
