Yonsei University 2027 International Freshman Admissions Open September 1

Yonsei University’s Seoul Campus will open online applications for March 2027 international undergraduate freshman admission at 10 a.m. on September 1, 2026. Online applications close at 5 p.m. on September 17, and original documents must arrive by 5 p.m. on September 30.

Online application and submission of original documents are handled in two steps. Applicants complete the application and pay the application fee online, then send the printed application and original documents by registered mail or international express delivery.

Applications cannot be edited after submission. The application form, study-period record, and personal statement are completed on the application site and then submitted as printouts. Contact information and email addresses must be ones the applicant can actually check during the admissions process.

Applicants must be high school graduates or expected graduates with two foreign-national parents

The basic eligibility for international undergraduate freshman admission is a foreign national whose parents are both foreign nationals and who has graduated or is expected to graduate from a high school in Korea or abroad. Expected graduates must graduate by the end of February 2027; those expected to graduate from a high school in Japan may graduate by the end of March 2027.

Nationality is assessed as of the application date. The admissions guide states that an applicant with dual nationality including Korean nationality, or an applicant whose parent has dual nationality including Korean nationality, is not eligible for this track. It also states that GED, homeschooling, cyber learning, and similar routes are not recognized as methods of establishing academic qualification. Applicants with changes in school history or nationality should assemble eligibility evidence in line with the detailed notes in the admissions guide and instructions from the Office of Admissions.

Language requirements differ by academic unit

Academic units other than the College of Medicine, College of Dentistry, College of Nursing, and College of Pharmacy allow applicants to prove the language requirement through one of four routes: coursework conducted in Korean or English, completion of Korean-language education in Korea or abroad, a standardized academic test containing Korean or English scores, or an officially recognized Korean or English proficiency score. Evidence must be valid as of the application deadline and must be mailed by the deadline for original-document submission.

The College of Medicine, College of Dentistry, College of Nursing, and College of Pharmacy apply separate standards. Applicants to these four colleges need a TOPIK score of Level 5 or higher or completion of Level 5 or higher at the Yonsei University Korean Language Institute.

Applicants may apply to both the international admission track and the Global Leaders College international admission track. Within each track, however, they may apply to only one academic unit, and anyone applying to both tracks must prepare a separate set of required documents for each.

Recheck original-document formats by school and country

Required documents include the printed application, study-period record, and personal statement produced after online submission, together with documents proving academic history, grades, identity, and family relationships. Certificates not issued in Korean or English must undergo notarized translation. Apostille or consular-authentication requirements for high school graduation and transcript documents vary by the location of the school and the applicant type.

Applicants who completed their education in China may need additional documents related to academic credential verification by China’s Ministry of Education. Applicants educated in a country other than Korea or China must separately check whether the country is a party to the Apostille Convention and which consular-authentication route applies. The country-specific document package should follow the relevant row in the official table in the admissions guide.

The admissions guide states that original documents are generally not returned after submission. After acceptance, applicants should also check the guidance for the Standard Certificate of Admission to determine whether additional originals are needed for the visa application and how to separate documents for university submission from those needed for other procedures.

What changed in the 2027 guide and what to check after admission

The admissions guide lists the main changes for the 2027 academic year as an increase in application fees, changes to academic units offering teacher-training programs, the new Department of Advanced Pharmaceutical Science in the College of Pharmacy, and new or reorganized academic units in the College of AI Convergence. The guide says the undergraduate programs are conducted in Korean, although some departments offer courses in English.

As a rule, students entering in 2027 complete Residential College education at the International Campus for both semesters of Year 1. Some majors in the College of AI Convergence, College of Educational Sciences, and College of Pharmacy follow different periods or campuses, so applicants should check the exceptions for their intended academic unit.

Students admitted through the international admission track or the Global Leaders College international admission track must obtain TOPIK Level 3 or higher before entering a major and TOPIK Level 4 or higher before graduation. These requirements may be replaced by completion of an equivalent or higher course designated by the Yonsei University Korean Language Institute or by specified Korean-language test results. International freshmen generally study in the Global Basic Education Division during their first two semesters, but students entering the College of Medicine, College of Dentistry, College of Nursing, or College of Pharmacy are excluded from this requirement.

Where to send documents and what to check before mailing

Original documents should be sent to: Attn: International Admissions, Admissions Office, 3rd Floor, Building 201 (Centennial Hall), Yonsei University, 50 Yonsei-ro, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul 03722. Applicants should include the building number, floor, and the admissions track on the address.

The admissions schedule in the guide states that all applicants must submit documents by mail. Accepted methods are registered mail or international express delivery, and 5 p.m. on September 30 is the arrival deadline, not the mailing deadline. Applicants sending documents from overseas should choose a mailing date that allows for delivery time and use tracking to confirm that the university received the package.

Before mailing, applicants should compare their nationality and school of origin with the corresponding items in the required-document table in the admissions guide. Prepare the printed application and original documents as one package after online submission, and separately secure any materials needed for visa or other procedures.
