Applicants preparing overseas for a D-4 language-training visa should plan the timing of academic authentication and a bank balance certificate before this application period.

Study 4 hours a day for 10 weeks, totaling 200 hours

According to Keimyung University Korean Language Institute’s Regular Program overview, one term runs for 10 weeks and 200 hours. Classes meet 5 days a week for 4 hours a day, and students are placed in levels 1 through 6 according to Korean proficiency. Each class has about 15 students.

Classes integrate listening, reading, writing, and speaking, with TOPIK preparation included among the main learning goals. Morning classes run 09:00–13:00, and afternoon classes 14:00–18:00. Applicants do not choose a time slot; the university assigns either the morning or afternoon class based on the November 20 placement-test result.

Outside regular classes, the institute lists field trips to nearby historic and cultural cities such as Gyeongju and Andong, along with Korean-culture experience programs. Winter-term applicants should plan around this 10-week regular program, not a short vacation camp.

Fees are KRW 100,000 for admission and KRW 1,300,000 per term for tuition

The current Regular Program page lists the following fees.

ItemAmount
Admission feeKRW 100,000
TuitionKRW 1,300,000 per term
ScholarshipA scholarship of a designated amount for 4–5 students with excellent grades and attendance each term

The KRW 100,000 admission fee is non-refundable. Tuition is KRW 1,300,000 per term. If you plan to apply for a D-4 language-training visa, the Application Guide requires you to apply for at least 2 terms. After admission, make the actual payment according to the invoice sent by the university.

Eligibility starts at high-school graduation, and documents are submitted in Korean or English

Basic eligibility is high-school graduation or higher, or an equivalent educational background. Submission documents should be prepared in Korean or English.

Before applications open on September 7, prepare the following files first.

  • Application form and study plan
  • Copy of passport
  • Graduation certificate or certificate of current enrollment for the highest level of education
  • Transcript for the highest level of education
  • Bank balance certificate
  • Copy of TOPIK certificate, if available
  • Front and back copies of the Residence Card, if already held in Korea

Prepare the application form and study plan as the original DOCX or PDF files. For the certificate from the applicant’s highest level of education and the transcript, prepare an apostille or notarization/verification by an Embassy of the Republic of Korea as required by the university’s instructions.

Confirm the 2026 winter bank balance certificate requirement before the certificate is issued

The current Korean and English application pages do not use exactly the same wording for the bank balance certificate. For a certificate in the applicant’s own name, the Korean page states “KRW 8,000,000 or more, based on the 2025 winter term”. The English page says the certificate must have been issued within the past 1 month and show at least KRW 8,000,000 or an equivalent amount, without a 2025 label. If a family member’s account is used, it also instructs applicants to provide an official document proving the family relationship.

Therefore, applicants for the 2026 winter term should email `korean@kmu.ac.kr` before asking the bank to issue the certificate, confirm the balance amount and acceptable issue-date window for this term, and only then obtain it. Following this order can reduce the risk of having to reissue the certificate because of the difference between the Korean and English page wording.

The first submission is by email; originals and invoice payment follow after admission

The application process does not end with emailed files. Preparing each step in sequence from the outset makes it easier to plan the timeline through the D-4 application.

  1. Check eligibility and whether a D-4 visa is needed. Prospective D-4 applicants must apply for at least 2 terms.
  2. Prepare authentication of academic and transcript documents. Meet the apostille or Embassy of the Republic of Korea notarization/verification requirements.
  3. Email the application files September 7–18. Send them to korean@kmu.ac.kr.
  4. Check the admission-result email. The university says the email is sent 2 weeks or more after the document-submission deadline.
  5. Accepted applicants mail the original documents and pay according to the university invoice. Submit the original academic certificate and transcript with the apostille or Embassy of the Republic of Korea notarization/verification prepared in the previous step, and also mail the original bank balance certificate.
  6. Once the university confirms both the original documents and payment, it issues the Standard Admission Letter. The English application guide says it is issued within 1–2 weeks after both steps are confirmed.
  7. D-4 applicants receive visa-application documents from the university and apply at the competent Embassy of the Republic of Korea. Keimyung University Korean Language Institute states in its English guide that it does not issue a Visa Issuance Number.
  8. After the D-4 visa is issued, notify the university and prepare for the November 20 placement test.

Overseas applicants especially need time for the academic authentication in step 2 and the international mailing of originals in step 5. Because the application period is 12 days, starting academic-document authentication before September 7 can help prevent later steps from being interrupted.

Study at the Seongseo Campus in Daegu

Keimyung University is a private university in Daegu. Its current Facts & Figures lists 2,608 international students. The Korean Language Institute is located at Dongyeong Hall 101-1, Seongseo Campus, Keimyung University, 1095 Dalgubeol-daero, Dalseo-gu, Daegu.

Applicants comparing intensive Korean programs in Daegu rather than Seoul should consider both the campus location and class times. Because students cannot choose the morning or afternoon session themselves, housing and commuting plans after arrival should work for either assignment.

Finish these five tasks before September 7

The preparation order before applications open is straightforward.

  • If you plan to apply for D-4, reflect the requirement to apply for at least 2 terms.
  • Start the apostille or Embassy of the Republic of Korea verification process for the graduation certificate and transcript.
  • Prepare the application form and study plan as original DOCX or PDF files.
  • For the bank balance certificate, ask `korean@kmu.ac.kr` to confirm the amount and acceptable issue-date range for the 2026 winter term before obtaining it.
  • Organize the passport, academic certificate, transcript, bank-balance document, and optional TOPIK document together for email submission September 7–18.

The official verification pages are the Korean Regular Program overview, Korean Application Guide, English Introduction, and English Application Process.
