Campus in Gunsan, Jeonbuk: about 40 minutes by bus from the terminal
According to Kunsan National University’s official university overview, Kunsan National University is a national university in Gunsan, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, with a history beginning with Gunsan Normal School in 1947. The university currently lists fields in humanities, arts, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, ocean science and engineering, and industry-university convergence engineering, so Korean-language students can also review possible degree fields for later study.
The university’s official directions page gives a travel time of about 40 minutes by local bus and about 20 minutes by taxi from Gunsan Bus Terminal to the campus. From Gunsan Station, it lists about 70 minutes by bus and about 24 minutes by taxi. These times can be used when planning housing and commuting after arrival.
Foreign applicants with a high-school diploma or higher may apply, and selection is by document review
The current winter-term official application page states that foreign nationals who have graduated from high school or have an equivalent or higher level of education may apply. The 2026 guide gives the same academic standard for foreign applicants whose native language is not Korean.
Selection is by document review. Foreign nationals already staying in Korea may also take the course within their permitted period of stay and must submit proof of their highest level of education.
Each term is 10 weeks and 200 hours, with six levels from Beginner 1 to Advanced 2
Kunsan National University’s Korean language program operates four terms a year—spring, summer, fall, and winter. Each term lasts 10 weeks for a total of 200 hours, with classes five days a week from Monday through Friday, four hours a day.
There are six levels: Beginner 1·2, Intermediate 1·2, and Advanced 1·2. Students study grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and listening, and TOPIK classes are included from Beginner 2. Cultural activities are also part of the program plan. Classes are generally conducted face-to-face and taught in Korean.
The Korean language program information page lists morning classes as 09:00~13:00, while the detailed timetable in the 2026 guide shows 09:00~12:50. Because both official sources place classes in the morning, applicants can plan their daily schedule around the morning time block.
New students register for at least two terms; the guide’s starting cost is KRW 4,100,000
Students starting the Korean language program must register for at least two terms (six months). Tuition is KRW 1,300,000 per term, or KRW 2,600,000 for two terms.
The university guide lists KRW 4,100,000 as the starting cost, combining two terms of tuition, first-term dormitory fees, and one year of private insurance.
| Item | Official amount | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition | KRW 2,600,000 | Two terms, KRW 1,300,000 per term |
| Dormitory fee | About KRW 1,300,000 | One term, 2–3 people in 1 room, three meals a day; optional weekend lunch and dinner charged separately |
| Private insurance | KRW 200,000 | One year |
| Guide total | KRW 4,100,000 | Total of the three items above |
Textbook costs and expenses related to cultural activities are separate. Optional weekend lunch and dinner cost extra, and dormitory fees may be adjusted according to the operating standards for the relevant term.
Whether and how to enroll in private insurance is set out in the instructions for admitted students. After entry, National Health Insurance begins according to the applicable stay-status rules. At the application stage, applicants can budget the guide’s KRW 4,100,000 by separating tuition, first-term dormitory costs, and one year of private insurance.
Applicants preparing for D-4 should arrange academic authentication and proof of a KRW 8,000,000 bank balance together
Applicants upload color scans of the required documents with the online application. Before the application window opens, it is efficient to secure academic records that take time to issue and authenticate, family-relationship and financial-support documents, and translations first, then prepare the bank-balance certificate according to the university’s issuance requirements.
The basic items to prepare are as follows.
- 3.5×4.5cm photo taken within the last six months
- Color copy of passport
- Documents related to graduation, degree, and transcripts from the applicant’s final school
- Academic documents authenticated in the required manner
- Identification documents for the applicant and parents
- Proof of family relationship
- Proof of financial support
- Bank-balance certificate in the applicant’s or a parent’s name
For documents not in Korean or English, prepare a Korean or English translation. As a general rule, ordinary documents should have been issued within four months of the application date, while bank documents are subject to separate issuance and validity requirements.
The standard for the bank-balance certificate is at least KRW 8,000,000 in the applicant’s or a parent’s name. If no validity period is printed on the certificate, prepare one issued on or after September 14, the application opening date; the university guide states that it may be recognized for up to six months from the issue date.
The guide sets separate bank-document conditions for applicants from Vietnam and Uzbekistan, so prepare the documents that apply to your nationality. Chinese nationals must complete the School Information Confirmation Form and submit the original as well.
Application sequence: prepare documents before opening → upload online → confirm bank documents → submit originals by October 8
The application process is easiest to follow when divided into pre-application preparation, online application, and original-document submission.
- Before September 14, gather passport, photo, academic, family-relationship, and financial-support documents, and prepare academic authentication plus any required Korean or English translations.
- Once applications open, prepare a bank-balance certificate of at least KRW 8,000,000 in the applicant’s or a parent’s name in line with the issuance rules and any nationality-specific conditions. If the certificate shows a validity period, check that period as well.
- From September 14 to 25, complete the online application on the Kunsan National University Office of International Affairs and Education application page and upload color scans of the required documents. Keep the upload file under 30MB.
- Chinese applicants should include any additional documents required for their nationality, such as the original School Information Confirmation Form.
- Submit the required original documents so that they arrive at the Office of International Affairs and Education by October 8, 2026.
- Check the result notice on October 19, then follow the university’s registration and admission procedures.
The postal address for original documents is Office of International Affairs and Education, Kunsan National University, 558 Daehak-ro, Gunsan-si, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province 54150, Republic of Korea. Online upload and original-document submission are separate steps, so overseas applicants should choose a mailing date that accounts for international delivery time.
New students use the dormitory for at least the first term, then may choose off-campus housing
New students use the university dormitory for at least the first term, about three months. The official guide gives an approximate cost of KRW 1,300,000 for a room shared by two to three people with three meals a day; optional weekend lunch and dinner cost extra.
After completing the first term, students may arrange off-campus housing themselves. Because new students register for at least two terms, it is easier to compare the full budget by calculating first-term dormitory costs separately from later housing costs.
Tuition refund rates vary by the point at which a student cancels
If your plans may change after registration, it is useful to include the refund rules in your budget.
| Cancellation point | Refund standard |
|---|---|
| Before admission | Amount paid refunded, excluding international remittance fees |
| Before classes begin | 100% of tuition |
| Before one-third of total class hours after classes begin | 70% of tuition |
| Before one-half of total class hours | 50% of tuition |
| After one-half of total class hours | No refund |
To request a refund before admission, applicants must provide a copy of a bank document showing an account in their own name.
Before applying, check both the winter application page and the 2026 guide
The winter-term schedule can be checked on the Korean Language Program Application page, while course, cost, dormitory, document, and refund rules are available in the 2026 Kunsan National University Korean Language Program Guide.
For Korean language program inquiries, call 063-469-4927 or email language@kunsan.ac.kr. Although online applications close on September 25, original-document submission continues through October 8, so preparing academic authentication and translations before the application period and arranging bank documents according to the opening-date rule keeps preparation moving between the two deadlines.
