Chung-Ang University: Spring 2027 Round 1 Undergraduate Admissions for International Students Open August 31

Chung-Ang University will open Round 1 applications for international undergraduate admissions for March 2027 entry at 10 a.m. on August 31, 2026. The intake covers freshmen and second- and third-year transfer students; online applications close at 6 p.m. on September 18, and documents must be submitted by September 18.

Before applying, the first thing to check is the campus of your major, rather than just the university name. Chung-Ang’s Seoul Campus is in Heukseok-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul, while the Da Vinci Campus is in Anseong, Gyeonggi. Because the two campuses are in different cities and living areas, choose your major first, then plan housing and commuting around that campus.

Seoul Heukseok and Anseong Da Vinci offer different major lineups

The Seoul Campus is near Heukseok Station on Subway Line 9 and Sangdo Station on Line 7. A broad range of admission units—including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, Creative ICT, software, business and economics, medicine, and game convergence—is based in Seoul.

The Da Vinci Campus is in Anseong, Gyeonggi, and houses biotechnology as well as several arts and sports admission units, including music, traditional arts, global arts, physical education, and arts engineering. Even within the College of Arts, film and photography may be in Seoul while music and traditional arts may be at the Da Vinci Campus, so do not judge the location by college name alone.

Chung-Ang’s guide introduces the university as having 15 colleges, 23,600 undergraduate students, 5,820 graduate students, and 3,861 international students. Its broad range of options—from medicine through engineering, software, games, life sciences, arts, and design—is a reason international applicants may consider the university. However, actual eligibility must be confirmed against both the freshman/transfer markings and campus in the 2027 admission-unit table below.

Online applications and documents close September 18

For mailed submissions, eligibility is based on the postmark by the deadline, not the date the university receives the mail. Still, considering country-specific delivery times and the possibility of loss or requests for corrections, it is safer not to wait until just before the online-application deadline.

Eligibility differs for freshmen and second- and third-year transfers

In principle, both the applicant and the applicant’s parents must be foreign nationals as of the application date. However, people who lost or renounced Korean nationality may be recognized as foreign nationals if they meet all separate conditions in the guide. Dual nationals holding both Korean and foreign nationality are not recognized as foreign nationals for this admission track.

• Freshman admission: Graduates or expected graduates of a regular high school in Korea or abroad, or persons recognized as having equivalent academic qualifications
• Second-year transfer: Persons who have completed or expect to complete at least two semesters or one year at a regular four-year university in Korea or abroad, or junior-college graduates or expected graduates and persons recognized as having equivalent qualifications
• Third-year transfer: Persons who have completed or expect to complete at least four semesters or two years at a regular four-year university in Korea or abroad, or junior-college graduates or expected graduates and persons recognized as having equivalent qualifications

Applicants who passed cyber-learning, high-school equivalency, or self-study degree examinations cannot apply through this track. Even within the same department, some units may admit only freshmen, only second-year transfers, or only third-year transfers. After checking your academic conditions, compare them again with the circles and year markings in the admission-unit table.

Most departments can be applied to without meeting the Korean-language standard; some departments are exceptions

For most admission units, applicants who already meet Chung-Ang’s Korean-language proficiency standard for undergraduate entry and those who do not yet meet it may both apply. An applicant who has not met the standard may be selected as a “provisionally admitted applicant” if document evaluation and eligibility screening find the applicant capable of studying.

Provisional admission is not final admission that immediately guarantees undergraduate enrollment. Within two years, applicants must obtain TOPIK Level 4 or Level 4 or above from Chung-Ang University’s Language Education Institute and reapply to the same admission unit before proceeding to final selection.

The following admission units require separate language standards at the application stage.

General undergraduate-entry standards offer multiple routes, including TOPIK Level 4, Level 4 at Chung-Ang’s Language Education Institute, Level 5 in a Korean-language program at a university certified for internationalization capacity, and Sejong Institute Intermediate 2. Some design and global arts admission units may apply a TOPIK Level 3 standard, so check the guide’s “Korean-Language Proficiency Standards for Undergraduate Entry” table by department before applying.

General departments use 100% document evaluation; medicine, arts, and sports also include interviews and practical tests

Humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, software, business and economics, biotechnology, and some design and arts-engineering units select students through 100% document evaluation. The Department of Medicine uses 50% documents and 50% interview, while arts and physical education use 50% documents and 50% in-person practical test or portfolio.

Applicants may apply to up to two departments in general admission units. Colleges of arts and physical education may be applied to only as a first choice, and medicine, arts, and physical education have no second-choice application-fee item.

Check translation and certification methods first for academic and family-relationship documents

The common documents include a printed application, high-school graduation and transcript certificates, proof of the applicant’s and parents’ nationality and family relationship, identity documents, and passport. Transfer applicants add university enrollment, completion, graduation, and transcript certificates according to their applying year. A personal statement for medicine, Game Convergence English scores, and arts/physical-education portfolios are documents for relevant applicants.

Documents not in Korean or English require a Korean or English translation and notarization. Other activity-supporting materials require a translation but not notarization. Methods for overseas academic documents vary by the country where the school is located, such as Chinese academic credential verification, an apostille, or Korean consular confirmation in the country concerned.

Do not include a bank-balance certificate with the admission documents. Successful applicants submit it when applying for the Certificate of Admission in January 2027; the guide indicates a balance of at least KRW 20,000,000, USD 14,000, CNY 100,000, or VND 370,000,000 in the applicable currency. The certificate must be issued within 30 days of the visa issuance/change application date; certificates issued by banks in China require the balance to be frozen through a date after March 31, 2027.

Tuition figures are 2026 references; submit scholarship scores by December 24

Tuition for the 2027 academic year has not yet been set. The amounts below are one-semester reference amounts for students entering in the 2026 academic year to help with budgeting.

The admission scholarship offers full tuition to applicants submitting TOPIK Level 6 and a 50% reduction to those submitting TOPIK Level 5. Completion of Level 5 or above at Chung-Ang’s Language Education Institute qualifies for 50%, Level 4 completion for 30%, and Level 5 or above at another university’s language institute for 30%. Students admitted to medicine are excluded from this admission scholarship. Relevant score reports and completion certificates must be submitted by December 24, 2026.

Apply separately for dormitories by campus

After checking the International Education Support Team notice in January, apply through each campus dormitory website. Selection is in order of admission scores. The following amounts are also 2026 academic-year reference amounts for 16 weeks.

The guide states that Seoul dormitories have capacity for 2,364 residents. The listed capacity of Da Vinci dormitories is 1,944, excluding athletes’ housing and other dormitory capacity. Dormitory placement is not guaranteed, so after admission it is advisable to check housing alternatives around the campus along with the dormitory application date.

Check five things before applying

1. Check whether the department you want to apply to is at the Seoul or Da Vinci Campus.
2. Compare freshman, second-year-transfer, and third-year-transfer availability markings with your academic qualifications.
3. Determine whether you are eligible for general provisional admission or for an exception department that requires TOPIK/English scores at application.
4. Work backward from the time needed for translation/notarization and apostille/consular confirmation of family-relationship and academic documents.
5. Arts, physical education, and medicine applicants should separately track portfolio, practical-test, and interview notices.
